    Specialist lime pointing in coventry
We are currently working on restoration of a large barn conversion in Binley, coventry. The barn conversion in question is on the comb abbey park, only a few hundred meters from the abbey hotel and was converted only a few years ago. Unfortunately the standard of work to the exterior of the building was to a very poor standard. Mb pointing were called to access the situation of the pointing. On arrival to the site the problem was quite clear as you will see from the photos. The bricklayer originally working on the conversion were using completely the wrong NHL mortar (natural hydraulic lime). The mortar was almost neat lime and was a bright white colour. Not only was the colour match wrong the quality of work was also very very poor, with lists of lime staining all over the brickwork.
Our job is to rake out all of the white mortar, clean the bricks and then repoint using a colour matched NHL mortar. we will be using or dust extraction setup and will be posting up some more videos of in in action on this site.
We will also be raking out and repointing around 100 square meters of the original mortar that has started badly ageing and will soon be causing damp problems. The job will take around 4 weeks for a 2 man team. So check back for updates, images and videos of the project. In the mean time take a look at the photos below on how not to repoint and ruin a beautiful historic building.
